Study on the Benefits of Urban Green Spaces for Depressive Disorder

Wellbeing is in the air:

Study on the benefits of urban green spaces for depressive disorder

Air pollution also threatens mental health

Exposure to air pollution not only harms the lungs and heart, but is also linked to psychiatric conditions such as depression.

Nature as an ally against Depression

The Freedom project investigates how urban greenness can improve the symptoms of Major Depressive Disorder, contributing to a more favourable course of the illness.

A Study for a New Therapeutic Perspective

Freedom is a scientific research project bringing together experts in occupational medicine, psychiatry, and environmental science to explore the positive impact of urban green spaces on mental health.

Can “green” help alleviate depressive symptoms?

The Freedom Research

The Freedom study (Further Exploring Environmental Determinants Of Mental Health) is based on the hypothesis that exposure to urban green spaces may positively influence the condition of individuals affected by Major Depressive Disorder. The aim of the study is to assess how urban greenness may contribute to a more favourable progression of depressive disorder, also investigating the potential biological mechanisms involved.
